Bill Barnett

Independent Candidate for the South West region in the European Parliamentary Elections 2009

Friday 29 May 2009

Enough is not enough for these people...

It is a scandal that well paid MPs and MEPs then go on to use more public money to "employ" family members. DO THEY NOT GET IT?? This is NOT money that is theirs by right, to do with as they please - it is PUBLIC MONEY, which should be spend in the most effective and efficient way possible.

Ask yourself this question - what are the mathematical odds that family members would, by ANY objective standard, just happen to be the best candidate for the job, had it been thrown open to fair competition? So its a double-whammy for the taxpayer - we pay top rate for services, yet arguably get second rate people filling the jobs.....but hey, who cares as long as our representatives get to enrich themselves.

The list below shows it cuts right across all parties.

Make a difference on June 4th - a vote for a party candidate is a vote for greed.
June 4th is Independents' day - vote Jury Team and let the parties know that that you are sick to the back teeth with their scams and fiddles.

  1. BB you have many interesting names but some stand out straight away to TheEye from your stepping-down tags. Brigadier Van Orden MEP didn't get trapped in the Brussels expenses whirlpool and was percentage-wise one of the good guys. Neil Parish MEP although is standing down is very likely to be polishing a MP's green bench as the next MP for Tiverton and Honiton.

Ben Dover (okay, Den but everyone calls him it behind his back) should have already resigned and the next person on that list would have automatically shuffled in to the seat.

However in some situations this arrangement is a good thing...same premises and a trust of honesty. We shouldn't tar everybody with the same brush. Some have made a sensible decision and others need CID to tap on the door.

  2. Mr Eye, I'm sorry but I have a real problem with it. If it was a private, family business then they could hire who-ever they like...but it isn't - it public money, and they have a responsibility, not least a moral one, to extract best value. In my book that means fair and open competition to fill any posts, not just employing your nearest and dearest. One of the other things that also gets my goat is the increase in dynastic politics...Martin, Prescott, Gould, Cash, Benn.

Sorry, Mr Eye, its corrupt and wrong in my book
